My nephew had hurt himself while playing in the bathroom. We took him to the hospital, late at night, for two days in a row. He ended up having a surgery. When he came out of the operation room, he could barely blink, still under the sedation. Minutes later, he grabbed me in the neck, and began to wail loudly. Holding the soft, hurt, and angry child, I felt overwhelming amount of sadness. Quietly, I imagined my organs being colored in blue black. I questioned my abilities, and the reason for such heartbreak. On our way home, I ordered a giant parking garage toy that came with nearly twenty different mini cars. The gift arrived before we finished our dinner. Together, we unpacked the gift, one by one, and tested the parking elevator that moved up and down with loud electronic sounds. He was happy until the next day, and the days that followed.
